SATURDAY MUD CLUB: 4-Week Wheel Throwing Workshop
When: Every Saturday at 11:00 (2.5 hours per session)
Where: Graefestraße 18, Kreuzberg
Price: €295 per person
Level: All-Levels (Perfect for total beginners & advanced beginners looking to refine their skills)
Start your Saturday morning with fresh coffee, creative energy, and clay. Whether you are stepping up to the potter’s wheel for the very first time or you’ve taken an Intro class and want to deepen your practice, this 4-week course is designed to meet you exactly where you are.
Why choose our studio? Unlike large, bustling studio spaces with 8 or more students to a class, we strictly limit our workshops to just 4 participants. This intimate, semi-private setting means you get your own dedicated wheel, plenty of breathing room, and tailored, one-on-one guidance from me during every single step of the process. If you want to learn at your own pace without the crowd, you’ve found your home.
Over 4 weeks, we will move past basic repetition and focus on crafting intentional, beautiful tableware. Ideally, you will bring home 2–5 finished, food-safe pieces.
The 4-Week Journey
Week 1: The Foundations & The Cylinder We start the weekend right with a quick coffee and an introduction to the wheel. You’ll learn (or refresh) the core mechanics: wedging, centering, opening, and pulling. Total beginners will focus on mastering the classic cylinder, while more experienced students will work on height, wall consistency, and minimizing clay waste.
Week 2: Expanding Forms (The Bowl or The Vase) After a quick technique refresh, we push our skills further. We will explore shaping curved walls to create the perfect breakfast bowl, a cozy mug, or a small bud vase. I’ll guide each of you individually to help shape your pieces safely on the wheel.
Week 3: Trimming & Creative Texture Time to give your leather-hard pieces their final silhouette. We will spend this session trimming crisp foot rings and cleaning up the bases. Then, we will explore surface decoration—I’ll show you how to use carving tools to add beautiful lines, ribs, or patterns to your work. (If you made a mug and want to add a handle, I can also show you how to quickly shape and attach one!)
Week 4: The Art of Glazing In our final session, we explore the magic of the kiln. I will demonstrate different glazing techniques, including dipping and pouring to achieve clean, professional finishes. Your work will then be fired at 1220 °C and ready for collection about 2 weeks later.
What’s Included:
An apron to use during class.
All tools, high-quality clay, glazes, and firing costs.
A relaxed, welcoming environment with personalized coaching.
Pro-Tip for Class: Short nails are highly advised for better practice and the best results on the wheel! Please wear clothes you don't mind getting messy.
Cancellation Policy:Please note that because spots are strictly limited to 4 people, refunds cannot be issued for cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the first class. This last session is subject to changes in case your work is not ready to be glazed and can be rescheduled.
