Welcome to THE WORKS, my signature 4-week deep dive into the art of wheel throwing.

In a neighborhood full of large, crowded pottery classes, this course is designed around true hands-on guidance. With a maximum of just 4 participants per course, you get your own dedicated wheel, plenty of space, and continuous, personal 1-to-1 instruction from me every single week. Whether you are touching clay for the first time or returning to build confidence on the wheel, I will guide you step-by-step through the complete studio process, from raw clay to finished ceramic pieces.

Over 4 sessions, you will master basic throwing mechanics, explore functional forms, refine your work with clean finishing details, and glaze your own creations. You will bring home between 4–8 finished, food-safe ceramic pieces.

The 4-Week Journey

  • Week 1: The Foundations & The Cylinder

We start from the ground up. You’ll learn the core mechanics of wheel throwing: wedging, centering, opening, and pulling up walls. We will focus on mastering the classic cylinder, the foundation for cups, vases, and mugs, building proper technique and muscle memory.

  • Week 2: Expanding Forms & Shapes

After a quick technique refresh, we push your skills further. We’ll explore working with curved walls to shape functional breakfast bowls, cups, or small bud vases. I will work with each of you individually to help adjust wall thickness, control shape, and refine your forms safely on the wheel.

  • Week 3: Trimming & Surface Design

Time to transform your leather-hard pieces into finished silhouettes. You will learn how to turn your pots upside down and trim crisp, professional foot rings. We will also cover surface techniques, from adding subtle carved textures to shaping and attaching handles if you’d like to turn your cylinders into mugs.

  • Week 4: The Art of Glazing

In our final session, we cover studio glaze application. I will guide you through dipping, pouring, and layering studio glazes to give your work clean, beautiful finishes. Your pieces will then be high-fired at 1220 °C and ready for pickup approximately 2 weeks later.

What’s Included:

  • 10 hours of direct, small-group instruction across 4 weekly sessions.

  • Your own dedicated pottery wheel for every class.

  • High-quality stoneware clay, all studio tools, premium glazes, and double firing costs (1220 °C).

  • An apron to use during studio hours.

Studio Note: Short nails are strongly recommended for the best grip and control on the wheel! Please wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty.

Cancellation Policy: Because courses are strictly capped at 3 people to ensure maximum individual guidance, fee refunds cannot be issued for cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the first class. The final glazing session is flexible and can be rescheduled if your pieces require additional drying or bisque firing time.
